Even though I was so many adjectives like scared, sad confused, tired, and yes, even hungry. I should also be one more adjective. I should be brave.

QuestionsWho is my inspiration for teaching?
What are some problems at your school? Which of these problems do you feel you can help with? How can I have the students working more than me? These will be the students who learn the most. Do I model my own self-directed learning with my students? How can I make learning more relevant for my students? How do I show respect for the naturally curious learners in my charge? Why use precious time during our week to hand over to our students? What do you consider more important to teach - is it the content? Or is it the students? Who is in charge of learning in your classroom? Who does the most work in your classroom? Who does the creating, constructing, producing, and performing? |

Reflection & Call to Action
Reflect on where you already give students choice. Where are your gaps?
If you’re not ready to jump in whole-hog, find places in your curriculum where students can choose what to learn. Ask them for help designing “me time” if you need it.
Are you on Twitter? Look through the #geniushour and #20time hashtags (see below). Join a chat! Ask questions! Learn from others around the world who are giving their students time to learn what THEY want to learn - in class.
Look for a kindred spirit at your school or district. Share your ideas, and see who’ll collaborate with you on your ideas. It’s difficult to go it alone, or to be the first. It’s easier if you have a partner!
Look through the LiveBinder (tinyurl.com/GHLiveBinder). If you are still not convinced, start with the “WHY” tab. If you want to get started right away, head to the “How to Get Started” tab or to the grade-level tab that works for you under “Grade-Level Stories.”
Consider a name for personalized learning that can work for you in your situation. On the LiveBinder, check out the tab under “How to Get Started” titled “Names/Ideas” for suggestions.
